Sailing is a blast, and it is much more accessible and affordable than many people think! The mission of BAYS is to encourage and promote the growth of junior sailing and racing in Northern California. Focused on children and teens ages eight to eighteen, BAYS is founded on the premise that sailing is unique in the developmental opportunities it offers to young people. In addition to sheer fun and the opportunity to develop life-long boat handling and racing skills, sailing builds character through its time-honored emphasis on self-reliance, teamwork and sportsmanship.

BAYS #2
BAYS #2 will be held June 26 & 27 at Richmond Yacht Club. Optis are racing only on Sunday, June 27. All other BAYS fleets will race both days. The NOR can be found at: BAYS2 NOR. Sailing Instructions are at: BAYS2 SIs
BAYS #1
The 2010 BAYS Summer Series officially got underway with BAYS #1 - on May 15-16, hosted by PYSF and Sequoia Yacht Club. The opening event of the BAYS summer season recorded 68 junior sailor entries. Two courses were in use with the majority of the fleet starting on the outside course in the south bay on Saturday. Conditions started both days with a light breeze with medium gusts but built throughout the day to end with a strong breeze and moderate chop on the outside course. However, a strong current posed a challenge for the initial starts on the outside course and when the Opti Championship fleet started there was not yet enough wind for them to overcome the current. The Opti race was abandoned and they were sent in to race on the inside course along with the Opti Green Fleet. The 420s, Lasers, and FJs enjoyed a variety of courses in the strong winds of mid and late afternoon and were able to get in up to 14 races over the two day regatta. With the lesser current on the inside course and the similar strong winds to those on the outside course, the Optis had a good series of races. Following the racing on Sunday, snacks were available at Sequoia Yacht Club followed by the awards ceremony for BAYS#1. Thanks to all the volunteers that helped make the initial BAYS regatta of 2010 a success. We look forward to seeing everyone on June 26 and 27 for BAYS #2 at Richmond Yacht Club. As a one time exception to the usual BAYS two day regatta format, for BAYS #2, the Optis will only be sailing on Sunday (June 27). All other BAYS fleets will sail both Saturday and Sunday. For future BAYS regattas, the Optis will return to a two day format.
