The 2009 BAYS summer race series arrived for the first time at the Richmond Yacht Club, as RYC played host to the BAYS #5 regatta over Labor Day weekend - the final stop of the five regatta season championships. The regatta was a real treat for sailors and spectators alike, as perfect weather, a world class venue, and an outstanding job by the RYC race committee and on-land volunteers combined to put a perfect punctuation on a highly successful BAYS season. In all, 93 junior sailors competed hard, demonstrated great sportsmanship, and simply had a blast throughout the weekend – thanks, RYC!
For the BAYS summer series, overall participation continued to be strong with over 400 sailors competing at the 5 summer regattas. The BAYS perpetual series trophies were won by the following Bay Area junior sailors:
-
Paul Cayard Trophy (c420):
Michael Grove & Lindsay Grove, EYC
-
John Kostecki Trophy (Optimist Dinghy):
Will Cefali, RYC & SFYC
-
Pam Healy Perpetual Trophy (Laser Radial)
Lauren Cefali, RYC & SFYC
-
BAYS Double Handed Dinghy Plaque (cFJ):
Kaleigh Allen & Maya Dornbrand-Lo, EYC
-
BAYS Entry Dinghy Plaque (Laser 4.7):
