Stars and Ranks
How is a school’s rank calculated?
School ranking is based on the percentage of the target stars achieved by participating students. Each student has a goal of 250 stars.
We calculate:
The total stars collected by the top 70% of participating students (ranked by performance),
Divided by the total target stars (see below),
In the case of a tie, student accuracy will be used as a tiebreaker.
What is the target goal for a school?
We define two possible scenarios:
-
If fewer than 70% of your total students are active, then:
Target Stars = 70% of total students (based on EMIS number) × 250 stars -
If 70% or more of your total students are active, then:
Target Stars = Number of active students × 250 stars
Eligibility for School Prizes
To qualify for school-level cash prizes:
- At least 80% of the school’s total enrolment (as per EMIS number) must be registered and active in the Olympiad.
- Schools entering only a single class are not eligible for school prizes, but class-level participation is still encouraged.
Individual Student Prizes
Awarded nationwide by grade level, regardless of the number of students participating from each school.
Formula Summary (for prize eligibility and rankings):
School Target = EMIS enrolment × 80% × 250 stars
This ensures a fair comparison across all schools and encourages broader participation rather than selective entry.
